The New York Word Legal Users Group (NY WLUG) is a community organization dedicated to the sharing of information relating to Microsoft Word (and its many 3rd party add-ins) among technology professionals who support the production and preparation of legal documents in New York.
History
The New York Word Legal User Group was founded in the early 90′s when many firms were busy planning their migration from WordPerfect to Microsoft Word. The group provided a valuable sharing mechanism for its members and their firms during this major transition. Since then the group has helped the community to navigate successfully through various migrations, new technologies, and common issues.
Meetings
The group meets at 9am-11am on the fourth Thursday of each month, excluding August and November for vacation/holidays. In December, we usually have a meeting at the beginning of the month.
The meetings are in the form of a breakfast (with time for networking) and a presentation on a relevant topic from an industry expert. If you wish to present at a meeting, or if you have an idea for a topic or a presenter, please email nywlug@gmail.com.
The meetings take place at the offices of some of our members’ firms whom we rely on to host and supply breakfast for our meetings. We are extremely grateful for this generosity and could not survive as a group without it. We are always in need of host locations, so if you think your firm could host a meeting please email us or let one of the core team know at the next meeting.
Upcoming meetings are announced to the membership via email and details are also published on this blog. You must RSVP to the meeting invitation to attend as this gets your name on the security list at the host’s office building.
Organization
As a community organization we have input and help from many of our members but there is a core team that holds it all together by contributing their precious time. The core team is made up of the following professionals:
Roseann Wingate, Service Delivery Manager / Trainer, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
Karen Kolb, Training Manager, Davis Polk
Simon Dandy. US Director of IT, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
Membership
Most NY WLUG members work in the IT, document production, or training department of medium to large law firms.
Vendors that supply the legal industry with related products or services are also welcome to join the group. We emphasize to vendors that the group should not be used for the purpose of selling their products.
Membership in the NY WLUG is free of charge and simply involves being added to our membership database. This database is kept confidential and your name and email address will not be shared with vendors or other members.
To join please email nywlug@gmail.com with your name, firm name and email address.
