1) Representatives from Nuance will present PDF Converter 5, and will also give a short demo of Dragon Naturally Speaking 10.
PDF Converter 5 is a true cost effective alternative to Acrobat. Originally developed in partnership with Microsoft, PDF Converter Professional delivers all of the rich features you need, and some features not available in alternatives – such as converting PDFs into Word, Excel and PowerPoint with full format fidelity. Nuance has also implemented many legal industry specific features such as: Redaction, Bates Stamping, Document Comparison, DMS Support (Hummingbird, OpenText, Interwoven), and Lexis-Nexis CaseMap Support giving law firms everything needed to create, convert, and edit PDF documents.
2) Announcing our “LIDS” initiative.
Law firms and clients around the globe are collaborating on Word documents more than ever before. In the spring of 2008, WLUG reached out to EncoreTech, Microsoft, Microsystems, and Stephanie Krieger for document production support, as well as guidance in managing legal documents in today’s collaborative environment. This is how ”The Day of Word” was born. In the months that followed, we have continued to address these concerns and have discussed the possibility of establishing Legal Industry Document Standards (“LIDS”). We start the new year with a group of WLUG members who are committed to exploring LIDS. We will keep you informed of our progress and will welcome your input during our monthly meetings.
